Look Into Tickets Early

Another guide on making the most of the Singpaore Grand Prix spent a lot of time talking about tickets, and we’d direct you back to that guide for reference. The idea, generally, is to book as early as possible (ideally when tickets go on sale in April). This is in part because the event will sell out, but also because you can get some good deals buying early as opposed to waiting until the last minute, or going through secondary markets. Additionally you’ll want to take some time researching the different kinds of tickets you can buy, some of which offer more access throughout the event than others.

Plan On Long Days & Nights

Attending the Singapore Grand Prix is unlike many other sporting events in that it can really take up a full day and night. You’ll want to get to the course as early as possible so as to stake out a good vantage point (within the area you have access to with your tickets of course). Then there’s the actual race. On top of that, however, there is also something of a festival that surrounds the circuit, such that it’s always worth sticking around after the race. At the very least you’ll be able to attend a concert, likely with a fairly major act or two on stage.

Research The Previous Year’s Action

One thing fans don’t always realize until they attend a race is that each grand prix really is its own competition. The drivers are ultimately competing for year-end honors, but there’s value in winning or establishing a streak at a given venue as well – which means it’s always fun to brush up on your history of a grand prix you attend. Taking the Singapore Grand Prix for instance, it’s nice to know that Sebastian Vettel, who’s still competing near the top of the standings, holds the record with four wins at the Marina Bay Circuit. In fact, one write-up last year called him the rightful favorite from a purely historical, technical and skillful level, despite the fact that Lewis Hamilton is always the likely winner these days. This is all fun stuff to know come race day.

Purchase Camera Equipment

This is only necessary if you’re intending to capture good pictures of the action. However, if that’s something you’d like to do, you really will need the right equipment. A standard smartphone camera just isn’t going to get great looks at F1 cars whizzing by at high speed – particularly in the setting of an evening race with lights overhead. We’d recommend if this is important to you doing some research on what types of lenses and shutter speeds people get the best results with at similar events, and preparing in advance.

Learn The Grounds

This may sound trivial, but having a good understanding of the expansive grounds can serve you well. You’ll be navigating in large crowds and with a lot of things going on, and it helps to know where things are and what the best ways to get around might be. You can find a circuit park map for the grand prix online, which makes it fairly easy to study and learn your way around in advance.

“It’s Louder Than Life”

The people who go here are not necessarily motorsports enthusiasts but they are people who don’t want to miss out on all the fun that the Grand Prix Season Singapore has to offer.

LOUD F1 Singapore Street Race at Night

One, you get to witness a LOUD street race! I brought my boyfriend with me a year ago and he was so “mayabang” He’s like, why did you buy me earmuffs? I was like “Ah ganun, wait till the race starts!”

My boyfriend is not an F1 fan, but after witnessing it, he was such a convert. He got so surprised at the deafening sound of the F1 cars as it passed by Padang area where he was seated. He cried for mercy for the earmuffs I bought him!

The race was also full of LOUD action. Michael Schumacher, Nick Heidfeld and Lewis Hamilton got into an accident in front of me! LUCKY ME!!! (I mean, you get lucky when you witness this in front of you because they get out of their car and walkd).  Also, on that race, Heikki Kovalainen’s car got engulfed in fire! No one was hurt. The FIA (governing body of F1) always makes sure that the drivers, the spectators and everyone else is safe. So even if there are fires and accidents, they only get minor injuries. This was a learning experience from the death of an F1 legend – Ayrton Senna.

Now now, the Singapore F1 race is a night race – adding to the challenge of a street race. Yes, the drivers will be driving around Marina Bay area. Unlike non-street circuits, there is a lesser or no margin for error at all. When a driver gets tired, or the team miscalculates, you could get smashed into the wall. It amazes me how I see cars pass by swiftly over a corner 1-inch from the wall!

Party LOUD and Dance the night away in GPSS

Now, the other reason to get LOUD is the party and the entertainment!

This is DJ Angie Vu Ha, one of the many DJs that will hit the beat with your favorite hits!

Every party station will be packed! St. James, Chjimes, Amber Lounge, Avalon and many more!

Singapore is a very strict country, but it does know how to party! I guess the strict policies are for the protection of everyone. Like I would walk on the streets at midnight and I would not be afraid. Of course, don’t do this in scary areas because after all, you never know what could happen.

Every year, Grand Prix Season Singapore hosts local and international artists. A lot of them! In my 3 years of covering it, I lack the powers to watch everything so you may choose the one that interests you.

I woud live LOUDER THAN LIFE when I dance to Shakira’s live performance! This is something I don’t want to miss. She is such a unique performer with that signature voice and belly moves! Here’s why I want to watch her (link).

Linkin’ Park is also one of the performers that I am dying to witness! I have been waiting for these two to perform in the Philippines. Come to think of it, the walkabout tickets are very reasonably affordable – thinking you get to see mini concerts of Shakira, Linkin’ Park, Rick Astley, Boy George, Shaggy, LMFAO, Ludacris, Charice and many other performers.

The 3 day walkabout tickets are at around P6,000. This would allow you to watch all of them, enjoy the party everywhere. And of course, witness the most luxurious motorsport in the world – F1 Grand Prix. The cheapest is the Single-Day Friday ticket at P1500.

I would love to go to the Amber Lounge party. This is my only chance to rub elbows with the F1 drivers. But, it costs a bit, so we’ll see abou that 🙂

LOUD CROWD

Foreigners flock to Singapore every time Grand Prix Season Singapore happens. It’s like a feast and everyone is on vacation mode. Everyone is on a party mood! This is also the perfect time to meet people and befriend others.

You can never go wrong with the crowd! Many of my friends are watching and this will be fun!

SCREAMING Singapore

Singapore itself is LOUDER than life. They have Universal Studios now, Marina Bay Sands, the new attractions at Sentosa. Sentosa now has iFly – a sky diving simulator. You will be literally flying and defying gravity!

So how am I going to Live Louder than Life in Signapore? Definitely cartwheels everywhere, I’m going to dance the night away, I’m going to take awesome pictures, and I’m going to defy gravity by trying a pole class there.

Apart from being the new champion of Formula 1 This year, dear Sebastian Vettel has an eye for fashion!

He is not gay.  And you don’t need to be a gay male to be fashionable… And he has a girlfriend named “Hannah”

Is he a dork too? Who knows… One thing I noticed through the entire F1 race this year is that he has the most awesome Head gear / helmet ever!

Anyway, Sebastian Vettel never had the pressure the other drivers have and he was just playing it cool.  The team probably assisted him well in his last race in Abu Dhabi by not mentioning too much that he is leading and he is winning!  Vettel said in one of his post-race interviews that he didn’t even realize he won championship not even when he saw the checkered flag.  He was just told by the team to bring the car home…

But seriously guys, I think Sebastian Vettel won driver’s championship for F1 2010 because he looked like Justin Bieber.

Some say he just won because Alonso and Webber faltered (really bad), landing them 7th place.  I say, that’s bullcrap.  Sebastian Vettel worked hard for this and I’ve seen him gracefully crossing the checkered flag – he deserves this win!  CONGRATULATIONS!  It is Vettel’s time and people say he’s lucky this time, well – good Karma follows him

Sebastian Vettel broke the record of youngest driver ever to win the Formula 1 World Championship at age of 23 years and 134 days.  (OMG I’m older than him??? WHY?!?) He broke the record set by Lewis Hamilton in 2008 who won the title at 23 years, 301 days.  Fernando Alonso also was youngest champion in 2005 and this was the time he beat the legendary Schumacher.

I LOOOOVE F1!  Can’t wait for the next season.  I might put up a separate blog for it.  Coming up next… my tribute to Sebastian Vettel’s Fashion Style!!! OH YEAH!

In the meantime, it is the last and final grand prix for this year at the Yas Marina Track in Abu Dhabi.  4 drivers are contenders to the title as we speak.  Leading for now as Fernando Alonso (yaye!) but still, the result of the race tonight will affect the current standings.  There are many things that could happen tonight and the four contending champions are Fernando Alonso, Lewis Hamilton, Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel.  Depending on their performance and the other drivers’ standings, one of the four will be champion.  I have a feeling Fernando Alonso will win this but, Lewis Hamilton might do risky moves just to make one final go at the championship title.  Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel are always kinda playing safe.  B

oth of the Red Bull drivers have very good performance this year, making Red Bull number 1 right now in the constructor’s championship.  McLaren Follows with Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button as their drivers.  Ferrari comes third this year with Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa.  I say, their car has been weak among the others and I was sad that they kinda put the blame on Kimi Raikkonen (the best driver for me ever) when he wasn’t performing well and fired him and replaced him with Fernando Alonso.

F1 Abu Dhabi Yas Marina 2010 Live Coverage

I have witnessed the 2008 and 2009 Singapore Grand Prix and I must say, 2010 is the best race ever.  Many say that Singapore Grand Prix is boring because there’s not much of overtaking.  I beg to disagree because this year, Singapore Tourism Board gave me great tickets to the Stamford Grandstand worth 30k bucks and I witnessed a lot of overtaking there!

I posted photos of Michael Schumacher and Nick Heidfeld’s accident right in front of me.  Nick Heidfeld’s car got bumped on the safety barricades at the circuit’s walls and Michael Schumacher spun almost a 360 degrees, pointing him to a wrong direction.  Michael Schumacher was lucky  not to have any major issues on his car but Nick’ Heidfeld’s crash on the walls caused a substantial damage to his car, leading him out of the race.

Hamilton also had an accident near our grandstand and I saw a lot of non-fans cheering… I cheered with them!  I am not really a Lewis Hamilton fan.  I am a fan of his girlfriend though – Nicole Scharzinger, who had always been with him in the races.  He was caught on camera taking photos of Hamilton riding the F1 car before the race with a DSLR.  I forgot what brand she’s using lol.

I also attached photos of other cars overtaking each other.  I got lucky with my Grandstand tickets.  I am so glad that this year, I got the chance to experience being seated at the Padang Grandstand and Stamford Grandstand.  This gave me better knowledge on the best seats for everyone who’s asking me about the Singapore Grand Prix.  Padang Grandstand, worth 20k bucks is good if you want to be close to the hawker food center and the concert grounds.  Stamford Grandstands is a 5-8 minute walk from Padang Grandstand (a bit farther from the food and the concert ground) but Turn 7 and 8 is along this grandstand and this is usually where cars take the opportunity to overtake!

This spot is great for photographers!  It’s nearest Turn 7!  There were also two seats that aren’t numbered (meaning, it’s assigned to no one technically)

So, I arrived early, and claimed the seat for myself lol.

I can’t believe my card suddenly went full!  So I had to quickly erase some photos to make room for Schumi!

Fernando Alonso! F1 Singapore Grand Prix winner!  He had a perfect race!

Perfect race meaning he had the Pole position at the grid and he was never overtaken and he also had the fastest time in the practice.

Heikki Kovalainen’s car caught with fire.

I wuz like OMG!!! It’s the first time I’ve seen a fire while watching F1 (live or on TV)!!!

and of course, my all-time favorite driver in his invisible F1 car, zooming at 1000kph… The people barely noticed him because he was as fast as Superman, as you can see in the picture

Nick, a local from Singapore drove us around our entire stay and took out to party at the Power Station and to Geylang for some buns… not the kind of buns you green minded folks are thinking of, but buns like Siew Pao (siopao), beef kway teow and many more!
