AirAsia’s Clark-Singapore daily flights begins today!

Philippines’ AirAsia, the country’s newest low cost carrier, launched its newest Clark to Singapore route Saturday, December 15. Flight PQ 7491, operated by an all Filipino flight and cabin crew, left Clark International Airport at 6:10AM and arrived at Terminal 1 of Singapore’s Changi Airport at 9:40AM carrying 180 passengers including celebrity singer and artist Jim Paredes, guests from Singapore Tourism Board, officials from trade and tourism industry and friends from the media.
 
Head of Commercial for AirAsia Inc. Freddy Herrera said: “Today’s celebration reaffirms our commitment to help drive tourism and trade in the country especially in Clark, Pampanga where we base our operations. With our newest routes and low fares, we are connecting more and more people from the Philippines to Singapore and to AirAsia’s extensive network covering 85 destinations in 24 countries.”
 
AirAsia’s Clark-Singapore inaugural flight took place Saturday (December 15) following a pre-launch celebration dubbed as “Sing your way to Singapore” at Widus Convention Center in Clark, Pampanga attended by officials from Clark International Airport Corporation (CIAC), Department of Tourism (DoT), Singapore Tourism Board and officials from travel and leisure industries. The festivities kicked off with the arrival of guests from Metro Manila on board a special jeepney that has a sing-along service.
 
“Singapore is an attractive destination for Filipinos and AirAsia will make it even more attractive for our guests with our super low promo fares, reliable and on time service,” Herrera said.
 
There are 177,600 Filipinos in Singapore with 106,600 of them working as professionals and the remaining 71,000 are domestic helpers according to the Philippine embassy in Singapore.
 
“AirAsia’s daily routes to Singapore cater to the growing demand for both business and leisure travel, and equally important, this new route will provide low cost, high value service for our OFWs in Singapore so they can come home and reunite with their families as often as possible,” Herrera added.

We all wanted to try the iFly, but we lacked time.  iFly is a Sky Diving simulator.

You are literally defying gravity here because you will be flying with no harness or anything at all – without the many dangers of Sky Diving.  Pretty cool huh?  iFly is Sentosa’s newest attraction.  The iFly will take at least 2 hours of your time because they need to quickly train you.

Our afternoon started with a hearty lunch at Tastes of Asia.

We met the ladies who keep Sentosa interesting and fun!

I ordered Barley for drinks and Spaghetti.  Everyone in our table ordered either Laksa or Chicken Rice.  I was in the mood for some pasta at that time.

We had Samosa for appetizers.  The wasabi cream sauce sealed the deal!

The Laksa was so delicious! So shiok! There are different kinds of laksa.  One that is common in Malaysia is the sour one.  In Singapore, they mostly serve the laksa with coconut oil.  And this is the one.

Segway Ride at Sentosa

It was soooo much fun!  I want to buy one – or buy all Filipinos a Segway so that our air is cleaner!

Sentosa Sky Ride

Next up is the Sky Ride.  We needed to go to the other side of Sentosa anyway.

Your feet are dangling as you sit on a floating bench!  Scary? To some maybe, but you’ll overcome it!  Just hold on to your seat tight!

The view from the Sky Ride was breathtaking and relaxing.  And we saw this mini-island with words “Marry Me”  Aww… someone proposed on that day and I think it was a sweet gesture!

Beneath us is the Luge track.  The luge is a downhill ride.

We heard kids screaming below.  We thought someone got hurt.  Then we saw this big monitor lizard passing by their way.

What I love about Sentosa is that they don’t kill or capture the animals living on the island.  And yes, they are “Wild” animals.  They don’t feed them, they just live on their own.  You could also sea peacocks here most of the time, showing off their magnificent tail!

We went to the 4D Cinema next.  Uhmmm, put your gadgets inside your bag if you don’t want them to get wet.  You’re not allowed to take photos inside anyway.

After that we walked a few steps to the Tiger Tower for a 360 degree view of Sentosa and Singapore.

All you have to do when you go inside is to sit back, relax and enjoy the view.

We asked them if it is named after our very own Palawan islands here in the Philippines – and they have no clue why it was named that way.  If you know the history to this island, let me know in the comment section below!

Cable Car Ride to Jewel Box and Harbor Front

Another way to enjoy a top view of Singapore Harbor is to ride the Cable car.  There are three ways you can go to Sentosa from the main island: Bus ride, the monorail and the cable car!  You can also rent a cable car for a night to a dinner date!  We were told that there were a lot of marriage proposals that happened here already!

I havent tried riding the cable car at night, but it must be spectacular.  Seeing the colorful Singapore skyline that features the Singapore Flyer and the Marina Bay Sands – it should be a wonderful sight!

We also dropped by Jewel Box at Mount Faber.  It has fine dining restaurants and a really nice place to hang out!

“It’s Louder Than Life”

The people who go here are not necessarily motorsports enthusiasts but they are people who don’t want to miss out on all the fun that the Grand Prix Season Singapore has to offer.

LOUD F1 Singapore Street Race at Night

One, you get to witness a LOUD street race! I brought my boyfriend with me a year ago and he was so “mayabang” He’s like, why did you buy me earmuffs? I was like “Ah ganun, wait till the race starts!”

My boyfriend is not an F1 fan, but after witnessing it, he was such a convert. He got so surprised at the deafening sound of the F1 cars as it passed by Padang area where he was seated. He cried for mercy for the earmuffs I bought him!

The race was also full of LOUD action. Michael Schumacher, Nick Heidfeld and Lewis Hamilton got into an accident in front of me! LUCKY ME!!! (I mean, you get lucky when you witness this in front of you because they get out of their car and walkd).  Also, on that race, Heikki Kovalainen’s car got engulfed in fire! No one was hurt. The FIA (governing body of F1) always makes sure that the drivers, the spectators and everyone else is safe. So even if there are fires and accidents, they only get minor injuries. This was a learning experience from the death of an F1 legend – Ayrton Senna.

Now now, the Singapore F1 race is a night race – adding to the challenge of a street race. Yes, the drivers will be driving around Marina Bay area. Unlike non-street circuits, there is a lesser or no margin for error at all. When a driver gets tired, or the team miscalculates, you could get smashed into the wall. It amazes me how I see cars pass by swiftly over a corner 1-inch from the wall!

Party LOUD and Dance the night away in GPSS

Now, the other reason to get LOUD is the party and the entertainment!

This is DJ Angie Vu Ha, one of the many DJs that will hit the beat with your favorite hits!

Every party station will be packed! St. James, Chjimes, Amber Lounge, Avalon and many more!

Singapore is a very strict country, but it does know how to party! I guess the strict policies are for the protection of everyone. Like I would walk on the streets at midnight and I would not be afraid. Of course, don’t do this in scary areas because after all, you never know what could happen.

Every year, Grand Prix Season Singapore hosts local and international artists. A lot of them! In my 3 years of covering it, I lack the powers to watch everything so you may choose the one that interests you.

I woud live LOUDER THAN LIFE when I dance to Shakira’s live performance! This is something I don’t want to miss. She is such a unique performer with that signature voice and belly moves! Here’s why I want to watch her (link).

Linkin’ Park is also one of the performers that I am dying to witness! I have been waiting for these two to perform in the Philippines. Come to think of it, the walkabout tickets are very reasonably affordable – thinking you get to see mini concerts of Shakira, Linkin’ Park, Rick Astley, Boy George, Shaggy, LMFAO, Ludacris, Charice and many other performers.

The 3 day walkabout tickets are at around P6,000. This would allow you to watch all of them, enjoy the party everywhere. And of course, witness the most luxurious motorsport in the world – F1 Grand Prix. The cheapest is the Single-Day Friday ticket at P1500.

I would love to go to the Amber Lounge party. This is my only chance to rub elbows with the F1 drivers. But, it costs a bit, so we’ll see abou that 🙂

LOUD CROWD

Foreigners flock to Singapore every time Grand Prix Season Singapore happens. It’s like a feast and everyone is on vacation mode. Everyone is on a party mood! This is also the perfect time to meet people and befriend others.

You can never go wrong with the crowd! Many of my friends are watching and this will be fun!

SCREAMING Singapore

Singapore itself is LOUDER than life. They have Universal Studios now, Marina Bay Sands, the new attractions at Sentosa. Sentosa now has iFly – a sky diving simulator. You will be literally flying and defying gravity!

So how am I going to Live Louder than Life in Signapore? Definitely cartwheels everywhere, I’m going to dance the night away, I’m going to take awesome pictures, and I’m going to defy gravity by trying a pole class there.

At my quarter life (assuming I’d live till 100), I’d have to say I have a lot of check marks on my to-do list already! And I just checked another one when I finally boarded a cruise ship!

The Asian cruise is part of the Fly and Sail package of AirPhil Express for only P24,888 (all in). This included our overnight stay in Singapore with breakfast, the cruise itself (food included) and a short day tour in Malaysia.

I was afraid of getting seasick but I think that with my pole dancing, surfing and driving race karts – I am already immune with motion sickness. That didn’t excuse me from bringing medicines and thank goodness I brought them with me. It saved me from getting allergy attacks and headaches.

I was SO excited to be on a cruise ship!  I never imagined myself in one because I thought that cruise ships are only for rich people.  I didn’t know that AirPhil could make it happen – to be affordable for everyone!  You definitely get your money’s worth.

This room is good for quad sharing.  One of the furnitures inside (bottom right, can barely see it -yes that yellow thing) can turn into a bed.  It’s a mutant I tell you and I want one in my house for guests 😛

I had the best roomates – Vanny and Jas!  They had chinese herbal medicine with them which prevented the flu virus to take over my entire body.  Thanks for that Pei Pa Koi, it soothed my throat and took away my sniffles.  Remind me to bring one in the future 😛

Facilities and Entertainment

Food indeed is fuel for our body.  When I’m travelling, food tripping is part of my adventure!  I was so happy that I was with fellow bloggers who enjoy food like I do!

I wasn’t supposed to make a separate post for this restaurant but I had a great experience and decided to share it to you guys.  It was also the perfect time to bond with the other bloggers, now they know how crazy I am and how I get hyper (drunk-like) over ice cream.  I enjoyed this dinner probably because of the company that I have as well (nuks!).

Day 1 of our Fly and Sail adventure, touchdown Changi Singapore via Airphil Express.  We arrived in Singapore at 8pm and it was timely to eat on the airport.  Do you love airport food? Because I do… Sometimes I crave for aiplane food – I have no idea why.

We went to Pasta de Waraku to wait for Roch, one of the bloggers with us but she had trouble with immigration.  Alamak! (Malay expression for OMG) Immigration is always a headache.  Anyway, read here story here.

Pasta de Waraku – Japanese Fusion Restaurant

First impressions.

It’s Japanese food!  And I’m in Singapore!  I was thinking of feeding myself with lots of chicken rice, char kway teo, char siew fan, chilli crab, roast duck and hawker food!  But at that time I was so hungry I needed a “safe” food so that my tummy won’t get disintegrated (strong word but yes, my tummy is a grumpy one).

The walls were decorated with different real-looking representation of their different dishes.

The ambiance was very casual yet it has that certain glam that would attract travelers to take a pitstop to fuel their tummies.  Pasta de Waraku is known for their different flavoured and customizeable Japanese infused pasta.

Dinner special total price: $24.80 with complimentary soup of the day and vegetable salad.  All sets also include fried tofu cubes, potato salad and fries.

For their dinner special, there are three steps in ordering:

1. Choose main course.  Among the things we tried are: Ribeye steak, soft shell crab (my order), smoked duck, and salmon steak.

2. Choose pasta.  Many choices here.  Most of the pasta they prepare are infused with Japanese flavor and that includes putting pouched egg yolk with your pasta.

3. Choose drink.  They only have coke, sprite, iced lemon tea and hot/cold green tea.

4. Choose your ice cream.  We all loved the black sesame ice cream!  This is the only choice you should try!

Warning: Huge serving!  I would probably share this with another lady friend.  But this would be perfect for a guy’s tummy.  They’ll definitely leave full and satisfied.

Prawn Spicy Carbonara with Yolk and Carbonara Sauce

Ordered by Marcos, my fellow Ilonggo 🙂  It is one of the best pastas I’ve tried in this restaurant.  Good choice Marcos!  It wasn’t too spicy, I love egg and shrimp and the subtle carbonara sauce.  I prefer oil-based pasta by the way or pasta without too much sauce.

The other pasta that I loved is what Estan and Winston ordered.

Estan had Smoked Salmon steak and Basil pasta with tomatoes.

When Estan’s order arrived, my nose just hyperjumped to a wormhole, brining me to another dimension (I’m exaggerating)  But that’s how good the smell of the basil pasta was.  And the taste of course was much appreciated since I love oil-bases pasta.

Bacon and Potato Pasta with Wafu Cream Sauce

This is actually my order.  I was just curious how potato in apasta would taste like.  It was actually good, but I found that it was too heavy for my meal.  I didn’t know that we were going to be served with fried tofu cubes, potato salad and fries on the side. (I wasn’t entirely reading the menu).

Smoked Duck with Sweet Chili Sauce

This is another winner! Ordered by Ferdz and Marcos.

Soft Shell Crab with Wasabi Mayonnaise Sauce

This was my order, and to me this was the best!  Loved the crispy crab fried and salted.  I didn’t even dip it to the sauce anymore because it was already flavorful. We had to ask the werver if we can eat the shell – just to be sure 😛

This was a new flavor for me.  I told the other bloggers after my first bite that the taste has another dimension.  There’s touch (texture), taste, smell, the visual (eyes) and the ears.  There’s not much hearing going on to taste the ice cream but I couldn’t describe exactly how the first bite felt.  Like the ice cream was smoking inside my mouth.

You know how unique the sesame seeds taste are – a tiny dash of it in something as simple as bread, adds up to the flavor.

And for this ice cream, it’s really good.  Well done!

Airphil Express docked at Terminal 2 (not the budget airport) which is great if you want more selection of restaurants and shops for your last minute pasalubong shopping.

I was planning to lifecast the whole time via my new livestream channel at Justin.tv but free internet is scarce here in Singapore nowadays.  Wireless@sg, their city-wide wifi, is not as reliable anymore as before.  I used to enjoy wifi anywhere in the city as long as I buy a local Singapore sim card and register it.  But it seems useless now.  They don’t have temporary data plans unlike Malaysia’s digi.

So for now, I have photos below showing our first night.

Upon arrival, we got a little bit gutsy and asked if we can take photos in the cockpit.  The crew and the pilot were very nice to us 🙂

At night, we walked around Little India and made our way to Mustafa mall to have some of our money exchanged and bought pasalubongs.  I bought chocolates and sun flower seeds for Bunny at home.
