The pics you posted seem spot on, I don’t know what the problem is. Also since this is out on the beach lighting should not be a problem. A d40 with a 70-300 lens would suffice even at f/8. You may want to consider getting an underwater casing for your body and work with the kit lens. That would improve your surfing shots by providing never before seen angles. I think casings would cost 2-3k
