I can’t help but notice great architectural structures in Singapore.  The buildings are eye-catching.  This is the La Salle building.  I think it’s a new mall, not sure though.

My favorite place to eat Duck Rice and Char Siew Rice (Roasted Pork / Asado Rice).  This is Leang Seah street corner Northbridge Road.

Another Renault car.  It’s not hard to take photos of the Renault car, it’s so photogenic.  It reflects more light than any other cars and my pictures with it are always clear.

And since this is very much related to everyone, I have decided to post questions that my readers ask me through email.  I will censor their name (or change it of course) just for their own privacy… Anyway, these will be helpful to you too if you are watching the Formula 1 Grand Prix LIVE in Singapore!

I found your website and really love your F1 photos. I am coming to Singapore for in Grand Prix week this year. Currently looking at options for tickets and choosing between Bay Grandstand and Premier Walkabout which you can still get from Australia thru agencies. Do you have any opinions on the differences if I may ask?

I am a very keen photographer and want to apply for access.

Have you had media access before because some of your shots look much better than what you can get here at the Grand Prix in Melbourne. I am actually a freelance photographer trying to break into motorsport and follow my passion of F1!

I didn’t get a media pass went I went to Singapore.  I was hoping to get one but you need to get one as early as January for the passes.

As for the tickets… I took the Bay Grandstand tickets before and I say there is a corner there where you can take advantage and take pictures with especially on the Friday’s practice and Saturday qualifying.  There are too many people on Sunday so it won’t be likely for you to get any decent shots.

I really can’t compare premiere walkabout vs Bay grandstand because I haven’t gone to Zones 1 and 2 during the event yet.  But premiere walkabout means you can only walk around and you won’t have elevated platform to take pictures with.  Although, the only advantage of this is that you can roam around the “Elite” areas and you might bump into important celebrities (and even the drivers themselves).  The disadvantage is that you might not be able to get a good shot of the buzzing cars.

If you are wondering which is the best seat for you in the Bay Grandstand…

This will just give you an idea on which tickets to buy.

This will also help you decide if you’re buying that Bay Grandstand ticket.

I watched F1 on 2008 (first night race ever) in Singapore and I bought the walk-about tickets for only SGD 108 (ish).  It was okay, but I really did not get a good vantage point to take photos.

Comes 2009, I decided to watch F1 night race in Singapore again and this time, I want to take my new DSLR Nikon D40 with the new 70-300mm G Nikkor lens.

I thought I needed a vantage point and I did my research.

I found out that some photographers who also posted their photos online got good shots from the Bay Grandstand.  These dudes didn’t have a media pass!  But they still managed to take uber-nice photos!

I decided to purchase the Bay Grandstand tickets.  I got my tickets through the SPECIAL early bird promo (one of the privileged ones to buy the ticket).  I got a good front row seat at Row 6, Seat 26 on the yellow seat.

When I was finally there to witness… that seat wasn’t the best!  Instead, I found out that the dark green seats nearest that curve (rows 1 – 11) were the best seats.

I have attached photos of the entire bay Grandstand so that you can have a view on what it looks like when you’re on the bottom row or on the top-most row.

Also, I have attached photos I have captured from the dark green area (row 1).  Those pictures I took there were ‘grid-less’!

The photos with the grid/fence were taken from the light green seat where the cars decelerate for the sharp turn.

The yellow part in the middle is not a smart choice if you are a photographer.  The cars still are in accelerated mode and is still wooshing.  Therefore, hard to take photos even on panning mode.  And since it’s a night race, you’ll have light source issues.

More tips:

I will focus more on tips for photographers.  General tips like bring bottled water, bring earplugs, wear comfy clothes etc are common sense.  Besides, these guides will be written down with your ticket.

1. The best time to take pictures is on Friday (practice day).  There are not much people yet.  Not much crowded.  You have plenty space to take photos.
2. Make sure to take photos of the drivers on their parade.  This will be your only chance to see their faces.  This is on the race day before the race happens.
3. Bring a DSLR.  In 2008 I bought only a super nice compact cam.  Still it won’t suffice.  You’ll need an SLR.
4. Zoom Lens is a must!  (only up to 300mm are allowed – this may change so check ticket)
5. Practice your panning. Before the F1 practice, qualifying and final race, there will be support races like the Aston Martin Cup, Porsche cup and F3 race.  This is the perfect time to practice.
6. Take videos as well.

I was browsing through my pictures and I realized that I have not uploaded all of the pictures from the 2009 Singapore Formula 1 night race.  Last year, I still had a day job and I was too busy to upload the pictures and blog.  When I was in Singapore, I did not have the liberty to touch my computer and update my blog all the time which is sad but you know why…

Anyway, to those who are going to this year’s Singapore Formula 1 then good luck guys and I envy you… Michael Schumacher will be there!!!  Oh, I love F1… I’m still working my way to be the first female driver in the Formula 1… time will come lol 😀

 

This is Lewis Hamilton walking around the Singapore F1 Track.  In this picture, you can only see a part of his leg and arm… I wasn’t able to get a good picture that was because I was so STARSTRUCK like I just **froze** there for like 5 seconds **faints**

I also saw Jensen Button cycling around the track but he was cycling to fast I wasn’t able to take pictures 😀

Day 1 – Singapore F1 Practice

September 25, 2009

I was seated at the Bay Grandstand yellow seats Row 6 Seat 26.  I took advantage of the special password given to me for booking.  It was too damn hot… This picture was taken at around 3pm and there were not much people but the sun is still hot!!! Make sure to apply sun block!  I swear, I would have wanted to walk around the track on a bikini – that’s how hot it is!

I tried to stroll around the Bay Grandstand area to look and search around for the best seats in the Bay Grandstand area.  This picture was taken at the super top seats in the Bay Grandstand Area. After checking the entire place, I would say that the best seats would have to be in the left most part (facing the track) on the Dark Green seats of the Bay Grandstand area.  I will blog about where to position yourselves nicely and what best ticket seats to buy for the Bay Grandstand area so please visit my blog often to get updated.

This is practice Friday and you can see Giancarlo Fisichella driving the Ferrari F1 car.  You can distinguish between Fisichella and Kimi Raikkonen based on the stickers behind their helmets.  The orange sticker is Fisichella, the yellow is Kimi.

We had a nice view of the Singapore Flyer by our side while the race is going.

This is the view from the top-left most part of the Bay Grandstand Area.  You will see a nice view of Singapore river and the skyscrapers 🙂

Looking Back at Singapore 2008 and 2009

I have covered the Singapore Formula 1 event for 2 years already.  My first coverage was the first ever Night Race in the history of Formula 1 and I was there to witness!  Second was interesting for me because I had access to the pit stop! Lucky!!!  Also, I bought a DSLR just for this purpose… I bought a Nikon D40 kit and I bought another 70-300mm G Nikkor lens when I went to Hong Kong and it was just for Formula 1!

To go… or not to go?

This year, it’s another interesting season… a very interesting one indeed.  We won’t be seeing Kimi Raikkonen race though as he has dropped out of Formula 1 and joined the World Rally.  Although, what’s special about this season is the comeback of the super F1 legend Michael Schumacher!  I have not seen him in person yet so this would be the only push I’d have to watch the Singapore GP again this year!

Unless of course there would be sponsors for my trip and if I get a media pass for this event then I would definitely love to cover again.  The only reason why I am thinking of not going is financial constraints huhu.

Anyway… It’s a new season and I have received another special email to book my ticket earlier than the “early bird” tickets.  It’s the same price as the early bird ticket really but the advantage is, I could get good seats.  Last year (2009) I was able to get a very good seat at the Bay Grandstand area.  I did not get the best seat but let me tell you about the best seat for grand stand later.

To those who received the special e-mail, you may book now!!! So hurry and get good seats before they open the ticketing to the public!  To those who have not received the email but would really want to buy NOW, then drop me an e-mail through my contact page and I will tell you the password which will only work until March 1!

Brace Yourselves for the Singapore GP 2010 Tickets Price

I have access to the ticketing now and I viewed it of course.  For those who are planning their trip to Singapore now to watch the F1, good for you!!! It’s the way to go to get cheaper tickets and trip!

Below is the chart of the prices from the Singapore GP Ticketing.  Notice that there is a new ticket available “Premiere Walkabout” which is very interesting because it will give you access to all Zones at a lower price.  Notice that I also converted the SGD prices into PHP for my Filipino friends… you need not convert.

Here’s the new map.  Last year I compared the 2008 and 2009 Singapore GP map and I was frustrated that the walk-about area was changed on 2009 and had limited access.  This made me decide to purchase a seat at the Bay Grandstand instead.  There is not much difference between the 2010 and 2009 Singapore F1 map on the other hand.  All is basically the same (the zones and gates) except for the Premiere Walkabout tickets that would give access to all zones at a cheaper price.
