Joji Solaris Tour at the Intuit Dome, Finally

Had the best weekend. My boyfriend got us tickets to Joji’s show at the Intuit Dome in LA on 7/11, and I’ve been wanting to see him live for a while now, I actually missed the Pandemonium tour back in 2023 because I had classes and ended up giving my tickets away, so this one felt overdue.
Quick personal note before the review, there’s a moment in “Sanctuary” where he sings about not needing to be someone’s angel to be loved, and hearing that live actually made me cry. I’ve spent a lot of past relationships shrinking myself to be more palatable, more perfect, and that song has been the thing telling me I don’t have to do that anymore. My boyfriend already gets that about me without me having to explain it, he’s never once asked me to be different than I am. Okay, feelings over, back to the actual review because I haven’t reviewed anything in forever and I miss doing this.
The concert itself was incredible and I genuinely don’t know how to explain it if you don’t already know Joji. On stage he barely shows any expression, like a deadpan, almost blank energy the whole time, if you didn’t know better you’d think he wasn’t feeling it at all. But then he opens his mouth and the vocals are just there, fully there, the emotion is all in the voice and the lyrics carry everything his face doesn’t. I went in with pretty low expectations for the singing honestly, I know he’s not Whitney Houston levels lol, he’s still very much Filthy Frank underneath it all, but he delivered way more than I expected the whole night.
The live band elevated everything. So much of his catalog is built on digital, kind of muted production, but hearing songs like Pixelated Kisses with actual electric guitars and drums behind them live was phenomenal, it hit completely different. And then the encore, Slow Dancing in the Dark, he hit the high notes clean, I was shocked honestly, I did not expect that kind of vocal stamina by the end of a full set.
I peeked at some Reddit threads after just to see if other people felt the same way about the vocals and yeah, seems like a lot of people walked in with low expectations and left surprised too.
Also have to shoutout the Intuit Dome itself because the tech in there is wild. I hadn’t been to a concert in a while so I wasn’t prepared for how much has changed. You can opt into GameFaceID to get into the stadium, no phone needed, you just walk through and it scans your face, entry was so smooth and the lines were noticeably shorter. We also bought snacks without touching our phones or wallets, it just recognized us and billed everything a few days later. I know people get weird about facial recognition and data collection, and honestly I think the US could stand to adopt something closer to the EU’s GDPR standards since our privacy laws are pretty lax in comparison, but purely as a concert going experience, it made the night easier.
Overall, incredible show, exceeded expectations on vocals, phenomenal live band, and a venue that’s clearly built for the future. Adding some photos from the night below.
